The British Rail Class 08 is a class of diesel-electric shunting locomotives built by British Railways as the standard BR general-purpose diesel shunter with the class becoming a familiar sight at major stations and freight yards. However, with fixed rakes of wagons and passenger trains consisting of multiple units the need for a shunting locomotive diminished and many were scrapped, sold on or simply stored out of use for spares etc.
Graham Farish began life in Poole in the 1940's, originally building 00 gauge models but really found their niche in 1970 when they introduced their first range of N gauge models. This led to their withdrawal from the 00 gauge market to concentrate on N gauge. In 2001 they were taken over by Kader and the brand models were absorbed into the Bachmann Industries portfolio of products. The range has since grown to what you see today with Graham Farish considered the leader in British N gauge modelling.
